“A conservative is a liberal who got mugged the night before” said former Democrat Philadelphia mayor Frank Lizzo and, in Washington D.C., lots of Democrats are getting mugged. Like Rizzo, many are also turning into conservatives, or at least, former Democrats. This has to stop. The muggings should be stopped also. Dictator Donald has taken over DC’s police despite DC’s altered violent crime statistics decreasing 30% from historic highs. Only 100 people have been murdered so far this year. DC’s legals voted 92% Democrat last election. If Rizzo’s adage is true, then only 8% of DC residents have been mugged. I know that is not accurate – many of the local graduates pulled the wrong lever in the voting booth, and DC’s police have been convicted of mitigating violent crimes when reporting crime statistics, but you get the point. Is DC safe? It depends who you ask. Now that Trump has called it unsafe, all of MAGA will echo that. When the Washington Post asks someone, they said DC is safe but only if “speaking on the condition of anonymity over concerns of personal safety.” A major problem often cited is roving gangs of juvenile gang members carjacking, robbing, and beating the residents. This becomes a major problem when these residents are federal employees. Do we really need Trump sending in the Gestapo to crack down on some errant teenagers and pre-teens? This sounds like an easy fix to someone like me. First of all, invest in educating these youths. I know, I know, DC spends more per student in education than any other locality, with dismal results, but the only solution is to spend more. How could they defund the Department of Education and attack the teacher unions at a time like this? The second solution is to tire these youngsters out so they won’t have the energy for their crime sprees. No, I am not talking mandatory after-school tutoring or internships, I am talking midnight basketball. It is a vigorous sport  that takes a lot out of you. You wake up tired and, after a long day of education, you are so tired you need to nap so you are fresh by midnight. Imagine if instead of drive-by shooting your rival gang, you kick their ass in basketball? You can only kill a gangbanger once, but you can ass-kick them in basketball over and over.  A third solution is beginning driver education much earlier. In DC, you cannot get a driver permit until you are sixteen. Many of the carjackers are under the age limit. This means their driving experience is limited to prior carjackings. They are likely erratic drivers, don’t use turn signals, and probably uninsured, thus danger is compounded. No one is safe – other drivers, pedestrians, the carjackers, and the car owner whose auto insurance is useless. (I hope it is not Progressive). If you think about it, waiting until a DC student turns sixteen to learn driving skills makes no sense because a good percentage of students have already dropped out before then. Many conservatives believe the youths should be charged as adults for their crimes. This is not a solution to the problem either, as DC’s Soros-funded progressive prosecutors don’t really prosecute adults. Sorry, conservatives, your crime-fighting techniques are naïve and lack street smarts. No, there is a better way, as I have shown by utilizing both acumen and street smarts. The solution is better educated, safer driving carjackers. Not Trump.
